There is nothing sexy about smelly armpits. We all know how important deodorant is to our daily hygiene routine but not all deodorants or antiperspirants are made equal, most of the shop bought stuff are loaded with toxins, aluminum, and lots of other unwanted chemicals and preservatives and as a lot of you know I’ve been on the hunt for a natural deodorant that works. I’m also on the look out for more eco friendly and zero waste products which was quite hard but now thankfully, they’re slowly popping up and it’s not as impossible to replace old products for more eco friendly ones.
The newest natural deodorant to hit the internet is *Coconut Matter’s Deodorant Stick, handcrafted in small batches with all-natural ingredients like Wild organic virgin coconut oil and mineral-based magnesium (essential for good health), and a bioactive compound to fight the musk without clogging your sweat glands. Packaged in a biodegradable, easy-glide stick from recycled paper cardboard tubes lined with wax paper, choose from four different unisex scents – I’m currently loving Zen! I mean talk about zero waste this is what I’ve been looking for.
I was kindly sent 4 of their deodorants to try, Free – unscented, Spring – lavender, geranium, lime, Hero – eucalyptus, peppermint, rosemary and Zen – cedar wood, bergamot, vetiver. I couldn’t wait to start trying them out. Coconut Matter make sure that they are fair trade, sustainable, self-fuelling and zero waste. They have eight steps to pure fresh wild coconut oil which is sourced from the Soloman Islands. The coconuts used belong to the community and family of farmers who grow and process it.
Why Should You Choose Coconut Matter??
Just with soap bottles in the US, we’d fill 1,164 football fields. Not Gorgeous.
COCONUT MATTER is an ethically made beauty social and eco enterprise on a mission to reduce the plastic waste in our bathroom. Only 1 in 5 people recycle toiletries. They’re determined to make things easier!
The beauty sector generated over 142 billion units of packaging in 2018 – most of which ended up in landfill or the ocean. Facts are that only 50% of bathrooms products’ waste is recycled, simply because we don’t tend to have a recycling bin in our WC’s. Are major corporations doing enough to kick the habit? Definitely not.
Their first target: Deodorants. It matters to your pretty armpits and overall health.
Coconut Matter natural deodorants are vegan, cruelty-free using 18 plant-based ingredients. Toxin-free, no aluminium, no baking soda, no paragons, no phthalates.
The packaging is zero waste as it’s 100% biodegradable. It comes in a paper stick, it’s light (perfect for your handbag or travelling or display in your bathroom). It’s effective, proved no body odour for 24 hours, no stickiness, no stains – silky & smooth. One deodorant lasts up to 4 months as we are on a mission to reduce the carbon footprint of the products as well. Many people make an effort to recycle paper & glass, but packaging from products like toothpaste or deodorant are often not possible to recycle.
Did You Know??
In the UK alone, we use approximately 600 million aerosol cans every year, which are mainly from deodorants, anti-perspirants and body sprays. Although it is possible to recycle aerosol cans, it’s more complicated than it seems as they need to be completely empty, dry and clean, which they’re often not. Also, the compressed gases in these types of deodorant are really harmful to the environment and contribute to cO2 emissions.
Since making the switch to more natural products
a couple of years ago and becoming much more aware of the affects things like plastics are having on our environment I’ve been aiming to become one of those zero waste warriors my OH would call it. I don’t think you can make the switch in one go but I truly believe making one switch a week or in my case a month will help and you wont feel as overwhelmed. For me I’m starting on my Bathroom products and one of those just so happens to be deodorant. I’ve tried various natural deodorants and even some of those come packaged in plastic. I don’t mind things like tin or glass as you can reuse those.
I started back in work at the start of this month and with all the running around I do on busy days and then the lifting of equipment while we clean, I need a deodorant that keeps me not only smelling fresh but feeling fresh all day and I was so surprised at how well this actually works. I really like it, I’m currently loving Zen with it’s woody tones of cedarwood, bergamot and vetiver. This would be ideal for the men in your life too. I love that not only do these deodorants smell good but they work, after a full busy day in work I still felt fresh, I only reapplied once throughout the day. They are 30g/1oz each and are nice and compact, perfect for travelling and carrying in your bag. They are also very lightweight and I love that. The biggest hit for me has to be that the WHOLE packaging 100% biodegradable. These 4 deodorants are actually a FULL YEAR’S worth, so that’s me sorted. I really recommend these gorgeous deodorants and can’t wait to continue trying them out over the coming months. Head on over and check these guys out you wont be disappointed.
Coconut Matter also have a fantastic Kickstarter campaign to help with the production of their latest Mood deodorant Bliss, this citrusy wonder will make you want to eat it and is packed with Lemongrass, Lime and Frankincense. If you’d like to pledge and earn rewards please visit the campaign and sign up here. I’ve pledged have you??
