This week I’ve been trying out a clean deodorant balm from The Natural Deodorant Co. I’ve used deodorant balms before and have really liked them but I’m still on the search for a really good one, I’ve tried sprays, creams and balms and as nice as some of them are they just haven’t done what I had hoped they would.
Who is The Natural Deodorant Co??
The Natural Deodorant Co. was born out of the desire to create the perfect natural deodorant by Laurie, tired of spending money on natural deodorants that needed to be reapplied every couple of hours, Laurie decided to create her own. Having worked in the beauty industry for many years she was very specific about how the product would look and feel. It had to absorb quickly, last all day and obviously, and she wanted it to stand out for all the right reasons.
Following many failed attempts, her (now award winning) Clean Deodorant Balm launched in early 2015. Within weeks it has been picked up by a popular chain of yoga studios in London and their popularity grew quickly from there. The Natural Deodorant Co. has gone from strength to strength since its launch, and now boasts international stockists and a loyal following.
Interest in natural deodorants is set to continue as consumers seek out natural and sustainable products in their day-to-day routine. Every one of their products is 100% natural, free from preservatives, alcohol, artificial fragrance & palm oil. They are all certified cruelty-free and registered with The Vegan Society. Their full-size pots are now plastic free, and the travel sizes will soon follow.
They Currently Have 2 Ranges of Deodorants;
There’s the Clean Deodorant Balm range, which comes in 6 different scents; Lemon & Geranium, Orange & Bergamot, Palmarosa & Mandarin, Grapefruit & Mint, Vanilla & Manuka and there’s one for the men. They also have the Gentle Deodorant Cream range, that comes in 4 different scents; Lavender, Tangerine, Unscented and Vanilla & Manuka.
I’ve been trying out the Palmarosa & Mandarin clean deodorant balm. They have 3 sizes you can buy; 5g sample pot for £2.50, 20g travel size pot for £6 and a full size 55g pot for £11. The prices are really reasonable and I’ve been using the 20g travel size pot and feel like I’ve still got a lot of product left.
Why Use a Natural Deodorant??
Antiperspirants, which stop your armpits producing sweat by plugging the pores, contain aluminium which can find its way into your body. Illnesses like some cancers and Alzheimer’s have been linked to high levels of aluminium in the body. Not only that, try adding parabens and other toxic substances into the mix.
Most deodorants, that do not stop sweat but prevent odour, also contain aluminium.
The first thing I noticed was the packaging, I’m a sucker for a really simple and simple looking package that doesn’t need bells and whistles, for me that just distracts me from reading anything on the labels and I’m one of those weird people that likes to see as much info as possible. As soon as I opened the lid the scent hits you, and it just smells so fresh. It’s really easy to apply and a little really does go a long way and these are my favourite kind of products because you really get so much for your money and it lasts you a good while. As this is a deodorant it wont stop you from sweating but there’s a whole host of amazing natural ingredients in there that will keep you feeling fresh and of course to stop you from smelling like one of your dirty socks!!
Bicarbonate of Soda
Palmarosa Essential Oil
Mandarin Orange Essential Oil
The bicarbonate of soda stops odour-causing bacteria, while the magnesium oxide absorbs the wetness and provides extra antibacterial protection. The Coconut Oil and Shea Butter nourish your underarm skin Their deodorant balms are suitable for all skin types and of course for daily use.
How To Use
Take a pea sized amount of balm and warm it with your fingers then apply it to your underarm area.
I actually really liked this deodorant balm, I have been using it every day since I opened it and it really has such power. I even tried it on a day I knew I’d be really busy working up a sweat and I have never felt so fresh in such a long time. I was helping out a friend in her pub as they were short staffed as so was running around making drinks and collecting glasses and really working up a sweat and was half expecting to find the dreaded sweat patches and to be smelly after a few hours thinking I’d have to reapply at some point but I was so surprised. I applied it once at around 4pm and I was still smelling and feeling fresh at 2am! That’s an incredible 10 HOURS!! There was no sweat patches on my clothes, and my gosh I’m in love!! I don’t like using my fingers to scoop out the product as I don’t think it’s as hygienic especially with your underarms and even though I’m clean I don’t want to risk contaminating my products so I found a little spoon to scoop out the product instead. I think I’m going to get the one for men and see what the OH thinks, I know it’ll take him a while to get the hang of it but it’s worth a go as I think he’d benefit more from it and it would work so much better than his beloved sprays (I’m slowly changing his products to more natural ones). Overall I’m so happy with this little pot of deodorant and I think I’ll be buying a couple more of the travel size pots in the different scents to find the right one for me. I’ll definitely be buying a full size pot as soon as I find the right scent. I just still can’t get over how well it worked. I’m so pleased. An added bonus for me is the fact that they are palm oil free so I will be buying from the brand again for sure.
Have you tried any of these deodorant balms?? What did you think??
