As you know at the start of 2019 I made a goal of reading just one book a month and I have to say I’ve started a couple but haven’t had much time to sit and read but then I picked up the book I’m reviewing today and couldn’t put it down. I can finally say I’ve finished reading my first book of 2019! Yay!! I’ve missed reading and I have so many books I’ve bought over the past couple of years that I haven’t even read and I want to try and get through those this year if I can.
Surprised to find himself reborn as a rambunctious golden-haired puppy after a tragically short life as a stray mutt, Bailey’s search for his new life’s meaning leads him into the loving arms of eight-year-old Ethan. During their countless adventures, Bailey joyously discovers how to be a good dog. But this life as a family pet is not the end of Bailey’s journey. Reborn as a puppy yet again, Bailey wonders if he will ever find his purpose.
I bought myself this book after seeing the trailer to the movie. I’m one of those people if there’s a movie based on a book I’ll always read the book first before seeing the movie. I really enjoyed this book, it only took me a couple of days to read. I couldn’t put it down. I really like W.Bruce Cameron and his writing, you may recognise his 8 simple rules for dating my teenage daughter which was turned into a hit TV show.
A dog’s Purpose is a fantastic book and well written, the story is from a dogs perspective. It starts off when Toby is born on the street, he’s a stray mutt and lives a fearful and harsh life until he is captured and shown love for the first time. Unfortunately Toby’s life is only a short one.
he is reborn in a puppy mill. Here, he finds his way into the hands and the heart of a young boy, Ethan and becomes Bailey. The love and devotion that develops between the two is beautiful and we watch them grow up together. They share many adventures together, some are exciting, some are terrifying and of course some are life changing. Dogs grow faster than boys and the time has come for Bailey to be put to sleep forever.
He is reborn again, this time as a German Shepherd rescue dog by the name of Ellie. With each incarnation his skills and knowledge grow, staying with him to help him fulfill his life’s purpose; if he could just figure out what it is he’s supposed to do. Finally he is reborn as Buddy where his life has gone full circle and he finally realises his purpose and what he’s supposed to do.
I highly recommend this book to all you animal lovers out there. It will have you on a serious emotional roller coaster, I laughed and cried but I really enjoyed this book. I’m looking forward to seeing how the movie compares (I’ll do a post about the two and which I thought was best). If you’re looking for something wonderful to read, that will make you smile ans laugh out loud, that is light, fun and heartwarming, yet has, moments that will bring you to tears. Then this is the book for you! It will definitely make you look at your dog in a whole new way!!
Have you read this?? What did you think??
